Our client is a well-established nursing home, committed to providing high-quality, person-centred care to elderly residents. They are seeking dedicated and experienced Staff Nurses to join their team in Sligo.

  • Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland registration (required)

The Staff Nurse will be accountable to practice within the Code of Professional Conduct guidelines as issued by An Bord Altranais and according to the policies as set out by the Organisation.

To maintain a professional standard of nursing care.

  • To develop clinical expertise, leadership and teaching skills through evidence-based practice.
  • To share responsibilities with other members of the nursing team for the management and delivery of nursing care and the residents environment under the direction of the Clinical Nurse manager and Director of Nursing

Clinical Role:

  • To provide effective individualised / person centred Nursing care
  • Preparing and up-dating of the Nursing care plans within a nursing framework.
  • Assisting the medical staff in their treatment of residents through the co-ordination of care and treatments provided by other disciplines and integrating them into the care plans.
  • Delivering skilled Nursing care and treatments for resident.
  • Liaise with GP or other allied professionals
  • Taking responsibility for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care using
  • Ensure that records are safeguarded and managed as per policy and in accordance with relevant legislation/HIQA standards
  • Ensure that care is carried out in an empathetic and ethical manner and that the privacy, dignity and physical, emotional, social & spiritual needs of the patient are respected

Assessment:

  • A comprehensive assessment of the residents health, personal and social needs using a recognized tool based on the activities of daily living
  • Utilise assessment skills and techniques to determine patients needs on admission
  • Complete and document the initial nursing assessment in a thorough and accurate manner
  • Re-assess the residents condition on an ongoing basis
  • Assess the need for residents instruction for informed choices to be made
  • assessments will be reviewed as per HIQA Guidelines or as and when necessary to reflect the residents changing needs
  • Contribute to ongoing monitoring, audit and evaluation of the service as appropriate

Planning:

  • Develop care plans ensuring that all aspects of health, personal and social needs are met
  • Update the care plans on a regular basis as per the needs of the residents
  • Report and consult with CNM on clinical issues as appropriate

Implementation:

  • Provide safe, comprehensive nursing care to a caseload of residents within the guidelines laid out by An Bord Altranais
  • Establish care priorities based on the residents nursing / medical problems
  • Perform procedures accurately, completely and safely
  • Maintain a safe environment for the residents
  • Respect the dignity and confidentiality of the residents, serving as a advocate as necessary
  • Adapt to a changing workload
  • Deal with home incidents and accidents
  • Accurately record and report details
  • Delegate and supervise the work of health care assistant staff within their role, as appropriate
  • Observe, report and take appropriate action on any matter which may be detrimental to patient care or well being
  • Take responsibilities in doctors rounds

Evaluation:

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of nursing interventions
  • Contribute to nursing quality assurance by assisting in the identification of recurring nursing problems and co-operating in data collection.

Professional:

  • Document according to policy and procedures
  • Demonstrate flexibility by assisting in other areas of the home as needed
  • Follow appropriate lines of authority
  • Report verbally and in writing, pertinent resident care information to appropriate nursing / medical personnel
  • Communicate appropriately with residents, colleagues, relatives, and other members of the healthcare team
  • Approach interpersonal relationships in a manner that avoids antagonism, reduces conflict and prevents undue anxiety
  • Participate in performance evaluation / review with CNM/DON, identifying areas for improvement and appropriate plans / measures to achieve them

Management:

  • Use time effectively and efficiently
  • Use discretion for decision making regarding resident care
  • Display initiative
  • Report ongoing problems to the Clinical Nurse Manager
  • Demonstrate ability to organise
  • Participate in the clinical / workplace induction of all new nursing and support staff

Candidate Requirements:

  • Registered Nurse with NMBI (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland)
  • Prior experience in the care of the older person sector
  • In-depth knowledge of HIQA regulations and nursing home standards
  • Minimum 3 years’ management experience in a similar healthcare setting
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in healthcare software and open to learning new systems
  • Desirable: Qualification in Leadership & Management, Gerontology, and/or Dementia Care
